What is the Proms The Proms, more formally known as the BBC Proms  or Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC, is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in central London, England, UK. BBC 프롬즈로 더 공식적으로 알려진 프롬즈 또는 BBC가 제공하는 헨리우드 산책 음악회는 해마다 여름철 8주간에 걸쳐 개최되는 일일 관현악 클래식 음악연주회 그리고 다른 행사들이다. 주로 영국의 잉글랜드, 런던 중앙에 있는 로얄 알버트 홀에서 이루어진다. The Royal Albert Hall Founded in 1895, each season currently consists of more than 70 concerts in Albert Hall, chamber music concerts at Cadogan Hall, additional Proms in the Park events across the UK on the Proms' final night, The Last Night of the Proms, and associated educational and children's events. 1895년에 설립되어, 해마다 현재는 알버트 홀에서 70여회의 연주회, 카도건 홀에서의 실내악 연주회들,프롬즈 마지막 밤 영국전역에 걸쳐 공원에서의 추가적인 프롬즈, 프롬즈 폐막식 밤, 그리고 교육적인 관련 어린이 행사들로 구성되어 있다. In 2009 the total number of concerts reached 100. The season is a significant event in British culture. In classical music, Jiří Bělohlávek described the Proms as "the world's largest and most democratic musical festival" 2009년  총 연주회수는 100회에 달했다. 그 행사는 영국 문화에서 중요한 것이다. 쥐리 베로흘라베크는 클래식 음악에서 프롬즈는 세계에서 가장 크고 가장 민주적인 음악 축제라 묘사했다.  *Jiří Bělohlávek CBE (Czech pronunciation: [jɪr̝iː bjɛloɦlaːvɛk]; born 24 February 1946)  is a Czech conductor. Prom  is short for promenade concert , a term which originally referred to outdoor concerts in London's pleasure gardens, where the audience was free to stroll around while the orchestra was playing. In fact this tradition has been revived in parks and stately homes around the UK  at promenade concerts such as the Battle Proms. 프롬은 산책길 연주의 줄임말인데 ,이 말은 원래 런던의 플레져 가든들에서의 야외 연주회를 일컬었다. 플레져 가든에서는 관현악이 연주되는 동안 청중들이 배회하는 것은 자유로웠다. 사실 이런 전통은 배틀 프롬즈 처럼  산책길 연주회에서 영국일원의 공원이나 저택주변에서 되살아 나고 있다. C. Benson/1862 ~ 1925 수필가, 시인, 작가, 28대 학장 Magdalene College, Cambridge 엘가의 위풍당당 행진곡 D장조 제1곡 <Pomp and Circumstance March No,1 in D Major,>에 <Land of Hope and Glory 희망과 영광의 땅>가사를 붙임.   “Pomp and Circumstance”는 Shakespeare 희곡 오셀로 Othello3막에서 따온 제목. 이 가사는 국왕 에드워드 7세(Edward VII)가 제안해서 붙인 것이라고 한다. 제목 덕분에 영국국가처럼 불리기도 했으며 제1차세계대전이 터지자 그 인기가 절정에 달했다   청중들은 이 곡을 듣고 애국심을 느꼈고, 작곡가 자신도 자신의 음악이 애국적 감정을 표현했다는 사실에 자랑스러워했다고 한다.  ***************************************************************** Land of Hope and Glory ~lyrics~   Land of Hope and Glory,          희망과 영광의 땅,      Mother of the Free,            자유의 어머니 How shall we extol thee,         그대에게서 태어난 우리     who are born of thee?         어찌 찬양하지 않으리?        Wider still and wider               넓고 넓은 영토 세워지니      shall thy bounds be set ;    God, who made thee mighty,   그대를 힘 있게 만드신 하느님      make thee mightier yet,     아직도 더 힘 세게 만드십니다 God, who made thee mighty,       make thee mightier yet.
