GEORGES CROSS (ENGLAND) NATIONAL FLAG
England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Wales to the west and Scotland to the north.
The Irish Sea lies west of England and the Celtic Sea to the southwest.
England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south.
The country covers five-eighths of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic, and includes over 100 smaller islands,
such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight. It is the largest country of the British Isles.
The name "England" is derived from the Old English name Englaland, which means "land of the Angles".
The Angles were one of the Germanic tribes that settled in Great Britain during the Early Middle Ages.
The Angles came from the Anglia peninsula in the Bay of Kiel area (present-day German state of Schleswig–Holstein) of the Baltic Sea.
The earliest recorded use of the term, as "Engla londe", is in the late-ninth-century translation into Old English of Bede's Ecclesiastical
History of the English People. The term was then used in a different sense to the modern one, meaning "the land inhabited by the English",
and it included English people in what is now south-east Scotland but was then part of the English kingdom of Northumbria.

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy lamb of god
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear: o clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariots of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
What a beautiful voice ! what a lovely lady ! What a wonderful anthem !
시의 원래 제목인 《아득한 옛날 저들의 발길은》 (And did those feet in ancient time)이라는 제목으로 알려져 있다.
And did those feet in ancient time,
Walk upon Englands mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On Englands pleasant pastures seen!
And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In Englands green & pleasant Land
