The Isle of Man (Manx: Mannin [ˈmanɪnʲ], also Manx: Ellan Vannin [ˈɛlʲan ˈvanɪnʲ]), also known as Mann /mæn/),

is a self-governing British Crown dependency situated in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. The head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, holds the title of Lord of Mann and is represented by a lieutenant governor. The United Kingdom has responsibility for the island's defence.

 

The inhabitants (Manx) are considered a Celtic nation.

 

 

The Isle of Man is located in the middle of the northern Irish Sea, almost equidistant from England to the east, Northern Ireland to the west, and Scotland (closest) to the north; while Wales to the south is almost the distance of the Republic of Ireland to the southwest. It is 52 kilometres (32 mi) long and, at its widest point, 22 kilometres (14 mi) wide. It has an area of around 572 square kilometres (221 sq mi).

 

At the 2016 census,  the Isle of Man was home to 83,314 people, of whom 26,997 resided in the island's capital, Douglas, and 9,128 in the adjoining village of Onchan.

The flag of the Isle of Man or flag of Mann (Manx: brattagh Vannin) is a triskelion, composed of three armoured legs with golden spurs, upon a red background.

It has been the official flag of Mann since 1 December 1932 , and is based on the Manx coat of arms, which dates back to the 13th century.

 

맨 국기는 붉은 바탕에 *황금박차(黃金拍車)로 무장한 세 다리로 이루어진*"삼각 회전문장(三脚 回轉紋章)"이다. 

1932년 12월 1일부터 맨의 공식 국기가 되었다.  13세기의  "맨 문장"에 기초한다.

Manx (native name Gaelg or Gailck, pronounced [ɡilg] or [ɡilk]),

also known as Manx Gaelic, and also historically spelled Manks, is a Goidelic Celtic language of the Indo-European language family, historically spoken by the Manx people.

맹크스(길크), 맹크스 게일어는 인도-유럽어족에 속하는 켈트어이며  역사적으로 맨섬 사람들이 사용하였다. 

 

 

The Manx Loop

if you’re looking for unspoilt landscapes and sea views. Beginning at Douglas,visitors can take a trip around the island, passing by the famous Peel harbour, the Tourist Trophy road racing track, and explore the Snaefell summit.

Some of the very best views on the Isle of Man can be had from Douglas Head, a rocky outcrop overlooking Douglas harbor and accessible along historic Marine Drive. (Be sure to stop for a photo as you enter the drive's ornate gate.)

The Isle of St Patrick and Peel Castle

Outside the harbor in the small community of Peel and linked by a causeway is the rocky Isle of St Patrick on which sits Peel Castle, an impressive red sandstone structure surrounded by an imposing old stone wall.

Peel Castle was originally a place of worship before becoming the fort of Magnus Barefoot, the 11th century Viking King of Mann. Highlights include St Patrick's Church and the Round Tower, which date back to 11th century.

 

Cregneash Folk Village

Located on remote Mull Hill (430 ft) and the most southerly town on the island, Cregneash is where you'll find a group of six chamber tombs known as the Mull Circle, or Meayll Circle.

The village itself is famous for its role as a "living museum" that preserves the traditional Manx way of life.

The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway

The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway on the Isle of Man runs along the seafront promenade

for approximately 1.6 miles (2.6 km),

from the southern terminus at the Victoria Pier, adjacent to the Sea Terminal,

to Derby Castle, the southern terminus of the Manx Electric Railway, where the workshops and sheds are located.

 

It is a distinctive tourist attraction.
