The lighthouse of Tourlitis

 

The lighthouse was first built in 1897 just off shore from a castle in Andros.

It is the only lighthouse that was built inside the sea.

The stone column on which it was built had been shaped by millennia of natural erosion into the perfect pedestal for a coastal beacon. Unfortunately the original lighthouse was not long for this world, and was destroyed during World War II.

 

1897년에 세워진 토우르리티스 등대 (Tourlitis Lighthouse)는

그리스 에게海 안드로스섬의 주도 호라(Chora) 앞 바다에, 유럽에서는 유일하게 내해 바위 위에 건축된 등대이다.

등대를 지은 돌기둥은 수천년간의 자연 침식작용에 의해 해안 지표(指標)로서 완벽한 토대를 형성하였다.

 

불행히 원래의 등대는 1943년 제2차 세계대전중 독일군의 폭격으로 파괴되어 더 이상 이 세상에 존재하지 않는다.

The Tourlitis lighthouse

 

The lighthouse was eventually rebuilt in the early 1990s by an oil tycoon who dedicated the structure to his daughter.

The replica became Greece’s first automated lighthouse, eliminating the need for an onsite keeper to operate the light.

But even with the modern upgrade, the lighthouse still looks like something out of Dungeon and Dragons,

with the winding staircase hewn from the rock itself, leading up to the door of the tower.

 

등대는 결국 '등대를 자신의 딸에게 헌정한' 한 석유왕에 의해 1990년대에 재건되었다.

모형은 등대를 작동하는 등대지기를 요하지 않는 그리스의 첫 자동화 등대가 되었다.

현대식 개선에도, 등대는 여전히 《던전 앤 드래곤》에서 솟아오르는 그 무엇 처럼 보인다.
