2022년 5월 28일 오후 5시 10분경 러시아 캄차카반도의 베지미아니화산이 대폭발을 일으켰습니다. 캄차카화산관측소(KVERT)에 의하면 분연은 고도 15km에 달했습니다. 분연은 대류권을 뚫고 성층권까지 올라갔습니다. 즉각 항공칼러코드는 레드, 적색 코드가 발령되었습니다. 적색코드는 현재 화산분화가 진행중이고 대량의 화산재가 방출되고 있는 상태를 말합니다. 적색코드는 항공기 운항에 지장을 줄 정도의 화산재가 비행고도까지 상승했을 경우 발령됩니다.

세인트 헬렌스 화산 폭발의 전조를 파악하는 과정에서 지질학자 존스턴이 1956년 3월 30일 구 소련 당시의 베지미아니 화산 분화를 많이 참고한 것으로 알려져 있다. 베지미아니 화산도 분출 당시 마찬가지로 측면이 부풀고 증기가 분출되는 현상을 보였다.

The Kamchatka Peninsula (полуо́стров Камча́тка, Poluostrov Kamchatka, IPA: [pəlʊˈostrəf kɐmˈt͡ɕætkə]) is a 1,250-kilometre-long (777 mi) peninsula in the Russian Far East, with an area of about 270,000 km2 (104,248 sq mi). The Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk make up the peninsula's eastern and western coastlines, respectively. Immediately offshore along the Pacific coast of the peninsula runs the 10,500-metre-deep (34,449 ft) Kuril–Kamchatka Trench.

 

The Kamchatka Peninsula, the Commander Islands, and the Karaginsky Island, constitute the Kamchatka Krai of the Russian Federation. The vast majority of the 322,079 inhabitants are ethnic Russians, although about 13,000 are Koryaks (2014). More than half of the population lives in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (179,526 in 2010) and nearby Yelizovo (38,980). The Kamchatka peninsula contains the volcanoes of Kamchatka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Kamchatka River and the surrounding central side valley are flanked by large volcanic belts containing around 160 volcanoes, 29 of them still active. The peninsula has a high density of volcanoes and associated volcanic phenomena, with 19 active volcanoes included in the six UNESCO World Heritage List sites in the Volcanoes of Kamchatka group, most of them on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the most volcanic area of the Eurasian continent, with many active cones. The Kamchatka Peninsula is also known as the "land of fire and ice".

 

 

The highest volcano is Klyuchevskaya Sopka (4,750 m (15,584 ft)), the largest active volcano in the Northern Hemisphere.  Many have highly symmetrical cones and Kronotsky is viewed by volcanologists Robert and Barbara Decker as a prime candidate for the world's most beautiful volcano.  Somewhat more accessible are the three volcanoes visible from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky: Koryaksky, Avachinsky, and Kozelsky. In the center of Kamchatka is the Valley of Geysers, which was partly destroyed by a massive mudslide in June 2007.

[서울=뉴시스]이재준 기자 = 러시아 극동 캄차카 반도에 있는 베지미안니 화산이 28일 대규모 분화를 일으켰다고 NHK 등이 보도했다.

매체는 일본 기상청을 인용해 이날 오후 5시10분(한국시간)께 캄차카 화산군에 속한 베지미안니 화산이 폭발해 쓰나미 발생 우려를 낳았다고 전했다.

베지미안니 화산이 분화하면서 뿜어져 나오는 연기(분연)는 15km 상공까지 치솟았다

대규모 화산 분화가 일어나면 지진에 의한 쓰나미와는 다르게 기압의 급격한 변화를 일으켜 해수면이 높아질 가능성이 크다.

 

베지미안니 화산은 캄차카 반도에 위치하며 해발이 2882m. 1955년 이래 자주 분화를 했으며 2010년 이후에는 용암 유출로 형성된 용암돔이 팽창하는 등 화산 활동이 왕성해졌다.

 

앞서 베지미안니 화산은 지난 24일과 25일에도 상당히 큰 분화를 했다고 한다. 2019년 3월 분화 때는 분연을 15km 상공까지 뿜어냈다.

 

매체는 베지미안니 화산 분화로 캄차카 반도 부근에서 이착륙하는 여객기와 근처 상공을 통과하는 북미, 유럽과 아시아 간 항공편이 항로를 변경하면서 연착 등 영향이 생길 공산이 농후하다고 관측했다.
