자코바이트 운동
자코바이트(영어: Jacobite 재커바이트 / 자코바이트)는 1688년 영국에서 일어난 명예혁명에 대한 반혁명 세력의 통칭이다. 그들은 추방된 스튜어트 왕조의 제임스 2세와 그 직계 남손을 정통 국왕이기 때문에 복위를 지지하며 정권을 동요시켰다. *자코바이트의 어원은 ‘제임스’(James)의 라틴어 이름인 야코부스(Jacobus)에서 나온 것이다.
보니 왕자 찰리(1720-88)는 스코틀랜드, 잉글랜드, 아일랜드(당시 그랬던 것처럼)의 왕좌를 차지한 두 번째 자코바이트 왕위 계승자였으며, 1745년 자코바이트 봉기를 선동했으나, 컴벌랜드 공작이 그의 군대를 패주시키는 것으로 끝났다.
1746년 4월 컬로든 전투. 패배 후 찰스 에드워드 스튜어트는 플로라 맥도날드의 도움을 받아 프랑스로 탈출했다.
Caroline Oliphant (1766-1845, Lady Nairne)는 작곡가이자 노래 수집가이자 작위를 받았다.
그녀는 당시로서는 결코 존재하지 않을 군주에 대한 애도로서 "Bonnie Charlie" 시를 썼다.

"Bonnie Charlie", also commonly known as "Will ye no come back again?",
is a Scots poem by Carolina Oliphant (Lady Nairne), set to a traditional Scottish folk tune.

As in several of the author's poems, its theme is the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, which ended at the Battle of Culloden. Written well after the events it commemorates, it is not a genuine Jacobite song, like many other songs that were "composed in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, but ... passed off as contemporary products of the Jacobite risings."

Lady Nairne came from a Jacobite family, and Prince Charles had stopped to dine at Nairne House on 4 September 1745, during the march to Edinburgh. Her father was exiled the year after, but the family "hoarded" a number of objects "supposedly given to him by Prince Charles."

Theme
The "Bonnie Charlie" of the song is "Bonnie Prince Charlie" or the Young Pretender, the last 중요한tuart claimant to the British throne. After Culloden, he escaped to the continent with the help of Flora MacDonald, and other loyal followers. The song expresses joy in Bonnie Charlie's escape from capture and possible execution, and celebrates the loyalty of his followers and their longing for his return.
